Bob Adams
My work is about people, the human condition. I examine how people interact with their environment and how they express that through facial expression and body language.
I use a variety of media; painting, drawing, digital collage and video. The choice of media is governed by the effect I wish to convey. Further examples of my work can be viewed on my website: www.theartofbobadams.co.uk
For me the primary value of Cover Uncover is as a sounding board. It is a place where I can test ideas and receive constructive criticism from colleagues with whom I have worked for a number of years and who I have grown to trust. We respect each others individuality but recognise the value of cooperation when it comes to sharing ideas, planning projects and seeking and mounting exhibitions.
MARY HAYES
My work focuses on colour, reflections and distortions.
My work includes lighting installations, paint and print. More examples of my work can be seen at: www.maryhayes.co.uk
For me, Cover Uncover provides a context for vigorous debate and exciting opportunities. The group members are supportive yet challenging and work well together. Having artists from outside the group joining us for exhibitions enables us to see our work differently.
Anne Jacob
I am a fine artist who uses the aesthetics of form and abstraction to express meaning. Of late I have worked expressing human qualities such as strength and vulnerability. I am attracted to changing places and the human narrative behind them.
I use a range of media including collage, painting, photography, printing and 3D plaster work. I am interested in the evolution of an idea through the use of different media.
The In8 group acts as a support, gives me motivation and a platform to exhibit my work. It is an opportunity to share information, explore meaning and spread our belief in the value of art.
PAST MEMBERS
RACHEL OXLEY
Rachel was a member of the group for a number of years until 2018.
"I believe our experiences and feelings are made up of independent elements attempting to display a harmonious exterior. My work is about a fixed moment in time - the disturbance, vulnerability, throbbing, pulsing and constant change is placed within a fixed form in sculpture or on paper.
I aim to communicate with the viewer and raise questions, often about difficult and taboo subjects including mental health. Research, critical exploration and experimentation are at the centre of my practice.
Working within the group provides so much opportunity to develop these vital aspects. Challenge, support and encouragement run parallel with valuable exchanges, learning from one another, leading to greater personal development."
Martin Jones
Martin was a member of the group for a number of years until 2019. www.martinjonesart.com
”I create portraits in acrylic, collage and other media, often relating them to my interest in the shaping of personal psychology by cultural and familial conditioning and the power of the subconscious to resist change. I try to suggest internal realities that underlie what people choose to make visible.
My other work responds to the dangers of climate change, creating paintings from images of destructive natural forces and refugees displaced from their lands and livelihoods.
I greatly value my work with the group members, and the relationships built by studying and working together over a number of years. Whilst free to act independently when I wish, the group enables the pooling of resources, skills and opinions to create stimulating exhibitions.”
TRISH BROWN
Trish was a founder member of the group who creates paintings of mysterious stages and rooms that have imaginative possibilities
